Whites and reds are equally represented in Vipava valley. Among red wines, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are predominant. Refosco is locally botteled as Barbera. The whites are more varied and include Pinot Blanc (beli pinot), Sauvignon Blanc, Rebolla (Rebula), and recently again some of the local varieties called Zelen ('the green one'), Klarnica and Pinela.

Vipava cooperative wine cellar is the only large producer and collects grapes from the whole valley. Private winaries mostly produce only a few 1000 litres wine. Vipava Wine Road links some of the small producers along the valley.
